Tissue Integrity

Tissue integrity is the ability of a tissue to remain structurally and functionally whole. Factors that can affect tissue integrity include disease, injury, inflammation, and aging. The term is often used in wound healing, where the goal is restoring the tissue to its original state. The nurse's role in promoting tissue integrity is to assess skin and tissue and to perform nursing interventions to prevent or treat tissue damage.
