Epidermal stripping associated with toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) leads to fluid and electrolyte imbalance through insensible loss. Therefore, the patient should receive parenteral nutrition and fluid sufficient to account for this loss. Fluid intake should not be restricted; edema and bullae formation remove the fluid from the vasculature and into the tissues. Tight wrapping of the extremities can lead to skin breakdown and pressure injuries. Open wounds should be kept moist to promote healing rather than applying drying agents.
