The MMR vaccine is contraindicated in pregnancy. Therefore, the nurse performs a point-of-care pregnancy test prior to administering the MMR vaccine. Although the MMR is also contraindicated in individuals with HIV who have a CD4 count less than 200, this is highly unlikely in an otherwise healthy patient. A CBC is not necessary in the otherwise healthy patient. A titer for measles, mumps, and rubella is a misuse of resources in the individual who has not received the MMR vaccine.
