The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recently adjusted the recommendations for car seat use in children to whatever age the child is when they reach the maximum height and weight specified by the manufacturer of the car seat. The old recommendation was 24 months. Reaching the size of the front-facing seat or having legs that extend past the edge of the seat do not indicate the child is ready for a front-facing seat.
