LVNs are trained in wound irrigation and dressing changes, which is a task unlicensed assistive personnel (UAP) are not authorized to perform. Therefore, the 42-year-old female with a non-healing wound is the most appropriate assignment to for the LVN as it will likely require dressing changes. UAP are allowed to assist with non-invasive tasks, such as skin care, hygiene assistance, ambulation, a range of motion exercises, checking vital signs, and collecting urine or stool specimens. Therefore, the 72-year-old male requiring frequent ambulation and the 36-year-old female requiring serial checks of their vital signs can be assigned to an UAP. The 48-year-old male with a chest tube would be assigned to an RN.
