The patient undergoing chemotherapy is at an increased risk for bleeding and infection. Monitoring the number of pads used during a period allows the patient to monitor for signs of hemorrhage; an increase in the number of pads indicates increased bleeding. Raw vegetables may be contraindicated due to immunosuppression. Tampons increase the risk for infection. Flossing increases the risk for bleeding and systemic infection.
