Children with osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) have brittle bones and often suffer bone fractures with little to no provocation. People with osteogenesis imperfecta should avoid contact sports such as football, ice hockey, rugby, and most martial arts. Gymnastics and parkour also put significant stress on bones and are generally not recommended. That said, swimming, dance, and racquet sports are usually safe for people with OI, although children should be closely monitored during the sports.
