Tuberculosis is transmitted via aerosolized droplets, so the resident should be moved to a negative pressure, filtered air room. Anyone entering the room should don an N95 mask, gloves, and gown. Discharging the patient to home is an abdication of responsibility and potentially creates an unsafe environment. If there are no suitable rooms at the facility, the resident should be properly transported to an institution with adequate facilities. Once the resident is isolated, there should be no need to limit the actions of residents, visitors or staff outside of the affected resident’s isolation room.
