The copper IUD prevents pregnancy by altering the sperm in the vaginal canal and preventing implantation of any zygote that does get fertilized. Hormone levels and ovulation were not affected. Pregnancy can occur immediately; if this is not desired, alternative contraceptive methods must be employed. It is true that some slight vaginal bleeding might occur due to the removal, but this is less crucial information to pass on to the patient. Ovulation is already normal and hormone levels do not need to adjust.
