Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) refers to the most common cause of blindness among older adults. It is characterized by painless and irreversible destruction of eyes' photoreceptors. There are several treatments indicated for different levels of glaucoma; however, the disease progression monitoring is most vital. Zinc and antioxidants are found to be helpful in minimizing the advancement of AMD. Beta-carotene should be avoided in current or ex-smokers. Iron, vitamin A, vitamin B complex, calcium, and phosphorus are not known to slow the progression of AMD.
