Patient care should be prioritized with airway being the most important. Hoarse voice and soot after exposure to a fire can indicate airway injury. This can result in airway inflammation and constriction that can be rapidly fatal if not dealt with promptly. Flank pain, likely indicating kidney stones, is not more important than compromised airway. Cardiac complaints are not more important than airway, especially when the patient is able to speak. Compound fractures, while serious, are not more important than a compromised airway.
