The patient with nephrotic syndrome experiences an increased loss of plasma proteins in the urine. Some of the plasma proteins lost in the urine include immunoglobulins, which place the patient in an immunocompromised state. Nephrotic syndrome places the patient at an increased risk for clotting, not bleeding. The patient with nephrotic syndrome may experience hyperlipidemia and vitamin D deficiency, but these are less concerning than infection.
