If a waveform and blood pressure is obtained with transducing the catheter, it is an arterial line. If the patient does not require arterial access, then discontinue the catheter and attempt additional access. Although pulsatile blood flow is a good assessment, transducing the line is the definitive answer. Removing the catheter without first attempting further assessment is not appropriate. It is also not appropriate to attempt additional access instead of investigating the current one.
