A sign of diabetes mellitus is recurrent vaginal candidiasis infections related to glycosuria and hyperglycemia in the tissues. Another symptom of diabetes is excessive thirst and urination. Asking about sexual activity is less helpful because vaginal candidiasis is not transmitted sexually. Although taking antibiotics for a bacterial infection can lead to overgrowth of Candida albicans and subsequent vaginal candidiasis, an upper respiratory infection is not treated with antibiotics. Contact dermatitis, not vaginal candidiasis, is caused by sensitivity to detergents.
