Following a lobectomy or pneumonectomy (surgical treatment for lung cancer), the patient should not be positioned completely on either side to prevent complications. High fowler's, reclining slightly with legs elevated on pillows, and supine with pillows under the right shoulder and hip are all appropriate positions for this patient.
