The patient with epilepsy is at risk for increased seizure occurrence related to the decreased quality of sleep patients experience in the hospital. The nurse questions any roommates that may contribute to sleep disruption, and therefore increase risk for seizures. The patient with UTI and urge incontinence will likely wake frequently in the night to urinate, which could disrupt the other patient’s sleep. The patient with Alzheimer’s who has difficulty sleeping is likely to disrupt the patient’s sleep as well. Gastroenteritis is likely to cause the patient to wake frequently in the night to use the toilet. The patient with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) snores and will disrupt the sleep of the patient with epilepsy. The patient with CF who requires q4h PD treatments with the vest, which is loud, will also be disruptive to the patient with epilepsy.
