Children with cystic fibrosis (CF) and their caregivers (anyone who comes in close contact with them, really) should receive a flu vaccine each year. If a person with CF gets the flu, it can be much worse than in someone who is otherwise healthy (i.e. without CF). The nasal spray form of the flu vaccine is only available for children age 2 and older. It is not necessary for a child with CF to have the nasal spray form of the flu vaccine. A person with CF is not necessarily at increased risk for contracting the flu, but the disease is worse if they do contract it.
