Changes in speech pattern are common in individuals with Parkinson's disease. They may speak very softly, haltingly, hesitate before speaking, or exhibit a rapid speech pattern. Patients may be embarrassed by some symptoms, such as drooling, difficulty talking, and limited mobility. Focusing and bolstering a patient’s strengths in a new environment will result in a more successful interaction. Hearing impairment is not a symptom is Parkinson disease. Individuals with Parkinson disease can successfully participate in gross motor activities and may need some modification. Fine motor activities may also need modification. Both promote independence in activities of daily living and should be encouraged.
