There are few contraindications to the use of albumin, but hypersensitivity to albumin or any component of its formulation is one of them. Likewise, albumin is contraindicated in patients at risk for volume overload such as those with heart failure, renal insufficiency, or severe anemia. Hypokalemia and hypoxemia are not contraindications to albumin. Importantly, albumin may lead to election lead imbalances, coagulation abnormalities, hyperkalemia/hemodilution, and volume overload. These risks may be outweighed by severe hemorrhage in this patient, the patient should be monitored closely.
