Alprazolam is a short-acting benzodiazepine that is usually indicated for the different types of anxiety disorders, such as generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) and panic. It is not recommended to concomitantly administer alprazolam with opioid-derivative drugs, such as codeine, morphine and hydrocodone. Patient who takes both drugs at the same time might experience severe respiratory depression or coma. If the patient is suffering from pain, ibuprofen, acetaminophen, and SSRIs are possible treatments that are not likely to interact with benzodiazepines.
