Lyme disease is a vector-borne infection affecting the entire body system caused by the spirochete Borrelia burgdorferi and transmitted by Ixodes scapularis ticks. Its clinical manifestations include fever, chills, headache, myalgia and arthralgia, rashes (erythema migrans), and adenopathy. Early localized disease is indicated by a single erythema migrans, while disseminated disease will have several. Headache, fever, and tender adenopathy are present in localized and generalized disease. Localized vs. generalized disease can be distinguished by the spread of adenopathy.
