A patient has the right to waive informed consent and agree to treatment. The nurse and/or provider must document this carefully and should obtain written, signed document attesting to this decision. If the patient agrees to this, the procedure would not need to be rescheduled. The procedure should not proceed unless documentation of the patient’s decision to waive their right is obtained. Just because a patient says he is frightened and does not wish to know the details of his treatment does not mean he/she is not competent.
