An Apgar score of zero indicates the neonate was blue, limp, apneic, unresponsive, and without a heart rate initially and at one and five minutes of life. Chest compressions would have been started following intubation and 30 seconds of effective ventilation. As the Apgar score was still 0 at the first minute of life, the patient’s heart rate was less than 60, not 60-100 bpm, and the patient was unresponsive, not grimacing at painful stimuli. Intubation was required immediately, rather than until 5 minutes of life.
