Following an active shooter incident, an incident command center will be set up to coordinate the response to the disaster. All nursing staff should follow the instructions given by incident command until the emergency response system is no longer activated. Reporting to the ER may not be indicated. Depending upon the circumstances, reporting to the ER should be done only if directed by incident command. Instructions for response to disaster situations should come from incident command, not from the charge nurse. Evacuation after a disaster situation has been resolved is not indicated.
