The client with a recently broken wrist who reports the distal extremity is pale, tingling, and cool to the touch may be experiencing compartment syndrome due to swelling under the new cast. This is a medical emergency and the patient must be seen first. The patients with poor pain management, pressure injury requiring dressing change, and lab tests can wait until after circulation is restored to the hand of the patient with the broken wrist.
