Oligohydramnios and failure to void with suprapubic distention points to either an obstruction or an inability to empty the bladder. This is likely caused by posterior urethral valves. The initial intervention is a straight catheterization to empty the bladder and prevent hydronephrosis. A renal ultrasound will be necessary. Creatinine and urine sodium are not the initial interventions to relieve the bladder. A fluid bolus will worsen the patient’s symptoms.
