The patient with arteriovenous malformation (AVM) is at risk for intracranial hemorrhage if the AVM ruptures, which can occur with hypertension. Therefore, to promote safety, the nurse administers antihypertensives as ordered. Regular vital signs and pain assessments are important, but less related to safety promotion in the patient with AVM. The patient’s room should be kept quiet and calm, but closing the door and keeping it completely dark may not be the best intervention as this increases the risk for falls.
