Interruptions to chest compressions should be limited. One of the times in which it is appropriate to pause chest compressions is during AED rhythm analysis. Chest compressions should be started immediately after a shock is administered or the AED recognizes a non-shockable rhythm. CPR should be continued until the end of the rescue. All rescuers should be clear of the patient prior to enduring a shock. Most AED devices power up immediately upon opening and continue to stay on throughout the rescue.
