Referred pain is felt in area of the body distant from the source of the pain. These areas are connected by the same spinal segment and are also known as dermatomes. Liver pain is referred to the right shoulder. Pain originating in the diaphragm and lungs can cause pain to be felt in the left shoulder. Chest pain is indicative of cardiac dysfunctions. Bladder pain can cause referred pain in the area of the tailbone.
