During the assessment of fetal activity, the mother spends an hour each day in a quiet room and feels her baby kick. Depending on the source, 4-10 kicks per hour are considered normal. Therefore, feeling only 2 movements in the hour requires further investigation. The mother needs to come to the clinic for further testing. Failing to act may result in fetal demise as decreased movement is a sign of fetal compromise. Documenting the result as normal or encouraging caffeine or retesting are not the appropriate actions.
