Some people with epilepsy, especially temporal lobe epilepsy, may have sensory experiences prior to a seizure. These are called auras. The smell of burnt tires is a common aura. Auras can be auditory or visual hallucinations as well. These are believed to be caused by CNS activity that precedes convulsions. Other auras include sudden strong emotions (e.g. fear), déjà vu, and numbness/tingling. Patients may feel tired after a seizure (postictal). Sneezing would be a rare aura, if it occurs at all.
