Vehicular accidents are common causes of fractures and head injuries. Otorrhea and bruising over the mastoids or eyes are classic symptoms of fracture of the petrous temporal bone or basilar skull fracture. Tension pneumocephalus is a condition in which the air is trapped inside the skull. Epidural hematoma occurs when the blood is accumulated between the skull and dura mater. While these latter two may be present after head trauma, they do not explain the findings. A frontal bone fracture would present with bruising or bleeding of the forehead.
