Diabetes insipidus (DI) is an endocrine condition characterized by voiding large amounts of diluted urine and extreme thirst resulting from insufficient secretion of vasopressin, or antidiuretic hormone (ADH) by the anterior pituitary gland. Patients with DI are usually treated with desmopressin and fluid replacement therapy. There is no strict dietary requirement for them; however, a low-protein, low-sodium diet is recommended to manage urinary output. Low-fat and clear liquid diets are not indicated for patients with DI.
