The most critical thing to assess when a patient presents with stroke symptoms is to determine when the patient was last asymptomatic. This allows for evaluation of which interventions could be indicated and if the patient is a candidate for antithrombotic therapy. Assessment of the patient’s allergies, medical history, and possibility of pregnancy are important, but less important than establishing the last time asymptomatic.
