Nurses need their own professional liability insurance for individual protection against malpractice suits. By having personal insurance, he or she has a lawyer acting solely in his or her own interests. It is not correct to say that a nurse is protected from liability by the hospital or that the nurse can only be found liable if the hospital is. Also, it is not correct that the nurse is not entitled to have his or her own legal representation and provide his or her own defense.
