The unlicensed assistive personnel (UAP) must not accept a delegated task for which he or she has not been trained; as such, the UAP must inform the nurse of the inability to complete the task. It may be appropriate for the UAP to review the nasogastric tube feeding policy and enlist the help of a more experienced colleague once the UAP has been trained on nasogastric tube feeding, but the most appropriate initial action is to inform the nurse of the inability to complete the task. It is only necessary to report the bedside nurse to the nurse manager if the bedside nurse is not receptive.
