Patients taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) should avoid foods that are high in tyramine such as processed meat product due to the risk of hypertensive crisis.The patient should also avoid alcohol, yogurt, fermented foods such as soy sauce, sauerkraut, and kimchi. While burgers and fries may not be the most healthful choice, they are unlikely to interact with MAOIs.
