These findings of erythema, edema, and pain are consistent with extravasation of amphotericin, due to its acidity. Infiltration is the leakage of intravenous solutions that are not damaging to tissue (like normal saline). Phlebitis is the inflammation of a vessel and presents with a defined palpable cord rather than diffuse erythema and edema. Although there is an increased risk of extravasation with administration of amphotericin, this is not a normal finding.
