Pregnant women are at a higher risk of abuse than non-pregnant women and men. Multiple bruises with different stages of healing are a strong indication of possible abuse. Loud arguing coupled with injuries consistent with the chief complaint is not as suspicious for abuse. A single extremity burn with splash marks is not suspicious for abuse, but rather suggests an accident. An older teenager with STD exposure is not suspicious for abuse by itself.
