Iron-deficiency anemia is a hematologic condition characterized by deficiency in red blood cell production as a result of bleeding, inadequate dietary iron and absorption problems. Iron supplements should be taken with vitamin C-rich foods and drinks, such as tomato juice, in order to increase absorption. Milk and tea strongly block absorption of iron. Water neither blocks nor promotes iron absorption.
