During a posterior pelvic exenteration, the anal canal, rectum, descending colon, fallopian tubes, ovaries, and uterus are removed. The vagina is removed in an anterior pelvic exenteration but not in a posterior exenteration. Although the patient will have to refrain from vaginal intercourse for some time while the pelvis heals, she will eventually be able to engage in vaginal intercourse. She will have a colostomy bag for fecal management. She will no longer be able to get pregnant because the uterus, fallopian tubes, and ovaries will be removed. For this same reason, hormone replacement therapy will be necessary.
