Colon biopsy requires a bowel preparation that is contraindicated in the setting of acute diverticulitis. Therefore, the colon biopsy must wait until the patient’s symptoms resolve. A clear liquid diet, serial erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) studies, and fluid administration are appropriate interventions for this patient.
