Tremors are normal in the first two days of life for term babies. Although post-term babies may have issues with hypoglycemia related to falling energy stores, this is not the best answer. It is possible that intrauterine exposure to stimulants or opioids can cause tremors or jitters in the neonate, but they are more likely a benign finding. It isn’t necessary to report the movements to the provider in the absence of other symptoms.
