Caloric and pupillary light reflexes are used to assess brainstem integrity in the patient where cervical spinal cord injury has not yet been ruled out. The doll’s eyes reflex is also used to assess brainstem integrity, however, it is contraindicated in the individual who may have a cervical spinal cord injury. The Babinski and Moro reflexes are primitive reflexes that, if present past the first year of life, can indicate motor neuron disorders. Absence of the cremasteric reflex may indicate a lower neuron disorder.
