The difference between type and crossmatch and type and screen is the difference between preparing blood for eventual use or immediate use. For type and screen, the blood bank staff will set aside blood in case it is needed at some point. For type and crossmatch, the blood bank staff will perform all the necessary testing required so that it is available as soon as the transfusion order is received.
