The patient with a C8 spinal cord injury does not have respiratory impairments and retains control of the arms. A manual wheelchair is the most appropriate adaptive device for this patient who does not require a chin-controlled electric wheelchair, or home ventilator. Although the patient retains control of the arms, bilateral elbow crutches require some control of the legs and are not the most appropriate choice for this patient.
