A von Willebrand disease is a genetic disorder resulting in insufficiency of a clotting factor called von Willebrand factor. The patient with von Willebrand disease with a fibrinogen level of 68 mg/dL may benefit from a cryoprecipitate transfusion. Cryoprecipitate is a packed plasma containing fibrinogen, von Willebrand factor, factor VIII, factor XIII, and fibronectin. The patient may also require packed red blood cells, platelets, or fresh frozen plasma depending on the clinical symptoms and other lab values, but there is nothing in the question to suggest these other lab values are outside of normal.
