Atorvastatin and other statins have demonstrated liver damage in some patients. As such, patients on these medications should undergo laboratory evaluation of their liver health through liver function tests (LFTs). Hemoglobin A1c is utilized in assessing diabetic patients as it gives providers insight into blood glucose levels over the previous 3 months. Thyroid function tests, or TFTs, are not indicated for patients on statin cholesterol medications like atorvastatin. There is no evidence of changes in heavy metal concentrations in patients taking atorvastatin.
