An orthotopic neobladder is created from part of the colon. It sits where the bladder is normally positioned and allows the patient to void urine conventionally. The patient with a continent urinary reservoir has a stoma in the abdominal wall through which the patient inserts a catheter to empty the urine. A collection bag is not necessary for an orthotopic neobladder. A nephrostomy tube is inserted directly into the kidney to drain urine.
