For a patient who is admitted due to a suicidal overdose, when administering daily medications, it is important to make sure that the patient is not stockpiling the medication instead of taking it in order to make another suicide attempt. It is unlikely that the patient would continue to be toxic from the overdose or that the prescribed medication would have an interaction. Assessing the patient’s vital signs and monitoring the patient’s response to the medication are part of a routine assessment but not of special importance for this patient.
